Pearl Jam’s May 1st Jazz & Heritage Festival performance will be the first ever concert broadcast live to our troops in Iraq as part of the Texas Roadhouse Live program "Homeland Salute to Our Troops."

The broadcast will feature a two-way live audio and video communication between the festival and the soldiers stationed in Iraq. Soldiers serving in the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat team will not only get to experience the entire Pearl Jam performance, but interact with Festivalgoers and share a few words to their hometown friends and family from across the world.

Several hundred service men and women are expected to tune-in to the broadcast.

The Pearl Jam concert will be the first of four broadcasts to the troops planned for 2010. The broadcasts are meant to show the servicemen and women overseas that we are thinking of them and to give the audience stateside, a glimpse of the front lines.

an email from PFC Chiasson:

"I would like to thank you and your crew for making that happen. It was a great show and surprise to be able to see my family on stage and threw the live web cast. It really hit home to see them. I appreciate everything you and your crew did to make it possible for us to see that."

Jazz Fest has often showcased Rock and Roll Hall of Famers
from the '60s and '70s, so Pearl Jam's booking was
controversial among the festival's faithful. The band's
wall-of-guitar sound stands in stark contrast to this year's
other marquee act, Simon & Garfunkel, who played the weekend
before. Simon & Garfunkel brought back nostalgic hits, while
Vedder mocked big oil and celebrated members of the 256th
Infantry Division, who were watching a live feed of the show
in Iraq.

The band's attempts to engage the soldiers watching in Iraq
were slightly stymied by a sound delay, but the frontman was
determined to deliver the full rock & roll experience from
oceans away. "I wish you'd have a beer," Vedder said at one
point. "You've earned it."...

Pearl Jam's Set At New Orleans Jazz Fest

Pearl Jam delivered a blistering set at this year's
New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on Saturday.

The Seattle grunge band performed not only for the
thousands on hand at the show, but also for the soldiers
with the Louisiana National Guard's 256th Infantry Brigade
Combat Team stationed in Iraq. A two-way live audio and
video communication was set up so that the troops in Iraq
could enjoy the show with the rest of the concert goers.

Frontman Eddie Vedder acknowledged the troops overseas
and thanked them for their "valiant work in extreme conditions."
He also prodded them to have a little fun.

"I wish you'd break down and have a beer," he said.
"You've earned it."

"Some unlikely names have taken up the slack from what used to be gigantic open spaces rented by the Hollywood majors: Now, rather than Sony, Paramount and Warners, outfits like Healing Waters & Baths of Europe and Texas Roadhouse Live have set up shop. The latter is even bringing Kinky Friedman to town to help hype its concert series."

quote from Variety magazine

"This year, the biggest head-turners were a pair of shapely young women in gold lame bodysuits shopping a show dubbed "Treasure Hunters Roadshow" from indie shingle Entertainment Concepts. And Kinky Friedman, the longtime country-rock artist, was just about the biggest name making an appearance at the show; he was there to tubthump for a weekly live music series, "Texas Roadhouse Live."
