Pearl Jam’s Jazz Fest Performance to be Broadcast Live to Military in Iraq

In support of the servicemen and women overseas, the New Orleans Jazz Festival announced that Pearl Jam’s Saturday, May 1 performance at the 2010 event will be broadcast live to the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat team. The 256th consists of Louisiana National Guardsmen currently serving in Iraq.

Partnering with Texas Roadhouse Live, the award-winning production company that started the Homeland Salute to the Troops series, the broadcast will feature a two-way live audio and video communication between the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell and the soldiers stationed in Iraq. The brave men and women from Louisiana and from around the country serving in the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat team will not only get to experience the entire Pearl Jam performance, but certain soldiers will be able to participate directly in the event. The large video screens positioned around the Acura Stage will allow Festivalgoers an opportunity to view a real-time video feed of the soldiers in Iraq watching the concert.

The beginning of the broadcast in Iraq will include a 20-minute video greeting showing the sights and sounds of Jazz Fest along with spontaneous thoughts and well-wishes from Festivalgoers. The military onsite at the base will have a camera and a microphone for the local soldiers to say a few words to their hometown friends and family from across the world. Who knows, there might even be a “who dat!” from a half a world away.

an email from PFC Chiasson:

"I would like to thank you and your crew for making that happen. It was a great show and surprise to be able to see my family on stage and threw the live web cast. It really hit home to see them. I appreciate everything you and your crew did to make it possible for us to see that."
